Crowned “The Banh Mi Queen,” Madam Khanh – The Banh Mi Queen is one of Hoi An’s most celebrated banh mi destinations, renowned for its fresh ingredients and signature homemade sauce.
Located at 115 Tran Cao Van Street, about one kilometer from Hoi An Market, the shop earned its iconic title from international travelers and was later widely recognized on Tripadvisor. With nearly 3,000 reviews, guests consistently praise the crusty bread, generous fillings, and rich pate.
Founded in 1975 by Nguyen Thi Loc and her husband, the name “Madam Khanh” — given by foreign visitors after her husband — has endured through the decades. Today, the more spacious shop is lovingly run by her daughter, continuing the family legacy.
Madam Khanh offers six varieties of banh mi, featuring fillings such as pork, chicken, egg, and sausage, all complemented by the house-made sauce. Prices range from VND 25,000 to 30,000 per sandwich. Vegetarian options are also available, with ingredients like tofu, egg, cheese, cucumber, and tomato. Guests may dine in or take their banh mi to nearby cafes to enjoy.
Long regarded as a pride of Vietnamese cuisine, banh mi reflects regional creativity across the country. Originally inspired by the French baguette, it has evolved with local flavors to become a global icon. In 2023, banh mi was ranked among the world’s top street foods by TasteAtlas, and in 2021, it was named one of the world’s best sandwiches by CNN Travel.
